No Trust In U.S. Government

Pew Study as Covered by NPRThe Pew Research Center has just released a study examining Americans' trust in government. The study reveals that only 22% of Americans' believe they can trust their government "almost always or most of the time". Perhaps more alarming, nearly 1 in 3 Americans believe that the power of the federal government needs to be reined in because it represents a major threat to their personal freedoms!

A Cause For Concern

Although I usually find myself respectfully at odds with the writings of New York Times columnist, Thomas L. Friedman, I found myself supportive of his view, expressed in an op-ed article in September of last year, regarding Applied Materials and the lack of focus the solar materials manufacturing industry has received in the United States.

Municipal Impact

Until very recently, most municipalities maintained their spending at pre-crisis levels even as they warned of numerous cutbacks being forced on them by declining tax revenues. As property values have fallen and corporate profits have weakened so have tax receipts.

Entitlement Addiction

Since the election of President Obama, conservatives have railed against the tremendous amount of government stimulus being provided to our economy and how we are trending dangerously close to a socialistic society.
