The Strengthening Brand America Project Featured In A Global Publication
The Place Brand Observer is a publication focused on helping place marketers and elected officials around the world better understand how to find the fine balance between aggressive competition and mutually beneficial collaboration. The Place Brand Observer’s mission is to look out for inspiring ideas, projects, brands and people dedicated to sustainable place branding and brands that are good for people, planet, and profit.
Florian Kaefer, PhD is the founder and managing editor. Florian’s educational background is in tourism management (BA), sustainable development (MA) and management communication (PhD). Florian recently completed a three-year research project for which he analyzed international news media representations of New Zealand’s national environmental performance and place brand image, with a focus on perceived place brand credibility.
His partner is Natàlia Ferrer Roca. Natàlia is the Editor. Originally from Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain), Natalia graduated in business and journalism, and holds a masters in Communications Policy from Westminster University (UK). She has just completed her doctoral studies in Media in New Zealand.
Florian and Natàlia have a group of contributing experts from around the world. They are in the process of creating a data base of case studies for professionals and cataloguing resources for educators and students to use in better understanding what place branding is and the impact it can make.
For the past few months Florian and I have been exchanging emails and our thoughts about the practice of place branding. Our discussions have been thought provoking and I have thoroughly enjoyed the give and take.
In this post I want to do two things:
- Introduce you to the Place Brand Observer as a knowledge resource. I encourage you to check it out. Having the benefit of expert insights and case studies from around the world will help you be even more innovative in your approach to place branding.
- Share my recently published interview. Florian found our conversations interesting enough that he wanted to share my perspective with the Place Brand Observer readers. I warned him that my perspective might be a little controversial, but I’ll let you be the judge. Here is the Interview.
After you read the article and check out the Place Brand Observer, please let me know your thoughts. If you have any questions about any of the answers I gave to Florian’s interview, just ask them as a comment to this post and I will provide you with additional perspective. I would enjoy the dialogue, so please don’t hesitate to leave a comment.
