Invest in America’s NEW policy paper on “Asian-Pacific Foreign Direct Investment in the United States” was published yesterday, August 24, 2009. This paper looks at Asian-Pacific FDI flows in-depth, examining historical inward FDI flows from the region, FDI trends, and drivers of these FDI flows, as well as long-term prospects and opportunities for U.S. entities seeking to attract more Asian-Pacific FDI.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has published “World Investment Prospects Survey: 2009 to 2011.” This document provides an outlook on future trends in foreign direct investment (FDI) by the largest transnational corporations (TNCs). The negative impact of the ongoing global economic slowdown has led many companies to decrease their FDI activity in 2009. TNCs expect FDI flows to rebound slightly in 2010 and gain momentum in 2011.

China’s Changing Outbound Foreign Direct Investment Profile: Drivers and Policy Implications,” published by the Peterson Institute for International Economics in June, 2009, examines the tremendous potential China holds as a major source of outward FDI flows.

Using data from fDi Intelligence, The Burghard Group has published a state-by-state comparison of global FDI inflows to the United States.
